A Specific Need
The Specific Ministry Pastor (SMP) Program is not for everyone. In fact, it’s not for most people who want to be pastors. The SMP Program is designed specifically for congregations who need a pastor but are, for whatever reason, unable to call a pastor through the usual methods. Instead the congregation raises up a leader from within and partners with their district and CTSFW to provide basic training and mentoring.
SMP situations include:
- A vacant congregation which cannot afford a full time pastor.
- An ethnic or immigrant ministry in which a prolonged absence might inhibit a student’s ability to do ministry in that particular community.
- Other circumstances as determined by your district president.
Your district president is the final arbiter of which situations qualify for SMP and which do not. To begin the process of becoming a Specific Ministry Pastor, contact your district president.
